Why Shenandoah in Fall
- Fall foliage along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park typically peaks from mid-October into early November.
- Cool evenings are made for the cabin's hot tub and gas fire pit.
- Thanksgiving week is quieter than summer, with easy access to trails, overlooks and small-town dining.
Fall & Thanksgiving Things to Do
- Drive or hike Skyline Drive and the park's overlooks, about 30 minutes away.
- Tour Luray Caverns, open year-round.
- Taste local wines at Brix & Columns Vineyards and other Shenandoah Valley wineries.
- Check the season's opening dates for skiing and tubing at Massanutten Resort.
- Pick up seasonal produce and pies at valley farm stands and markets.
Hosting Thanksgiving at the Cabin
- The kitchen has an induction cooktop, a countertop convection oven, pots and pans, and dining for 4 plus island seating for 2. There's no full-size oven, so plan a smaller bird or pick up a prepared feast.
- Shop before you arrive: the cabin is remote and cell service is spotty, though WiFi is reliable.
- A 4-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended on the unpaved road, especially if weather turns.
- Bring the dog: up to 2 crate-trained dogs are welcome ($50 each).
